Lufthansa, has started using the Polygon Network to distribute its NFT loyalty
31 Aug 2023
Passengers of one of the biggest airline groups in Europe, Lufthansa, may use the programme to convert their journeys into NFTs that can be used to earn incentives like miles and premium lounge passes.
The project, named Uptrip, is a partnership between Miles & More, the airline's frequent flyer programme, and Lufthansa Innovation Hub, the airline group's digital innovation branch. Using the Uptrip smartphone app, users may scan their boarding passes and trade them for NFTs.
Users must link their cryptocurrency wallets within the app to mint and transfer their Uptrip NFTs. Passengers will be qualified for benefits like flight upgrades, admission to the airport lounge, frequent flyer status, or reward points as they complete particular NFT collections.
Uptrip has garnered a lot of attention, according to Christopher Siegloch, head of programme development at Miles & More. Over 20,000 people have signed up, according to the statement, and 200,000 NFT trade cards have been produced.
However, according to Kristian Weymar, director of the Lufthansa Innovation Hub, Web3 is still in its infancy because people are reluctant to join it despite their curiosity. Weymar highlighted the project's efforts to make Web3 useful to its customers.
Not just the Lufthansa airline group has expressed interest in Web3. Emirates, the biggest airline in the United Arab Emirates, also declared its intention to accept Bitcoin payments and use NFTs in 2022.
The airline sector has a prospective for innovation and consumer involvement thanks to Web3 technology. NFTs may provide distinctive, personalised experiences for travellers and reward them for their loyalty by utilising blockchain networks like Polygon.
